Display Energy Certificates(DEC)
We are fully qualified and accredited to provide Display Energy Certificates (DEC) for public authorities and also for private organisations who want to assess the energy efficiency of their buildings against a similar benchmark property. This information is extremely useful in assessing the effect of energy saving measures.
DECs show the actual energy usage of a building, the Operational Rating, and help the public see the energy efficiency of a building. This is based on the energy consumption of the building as recorded by gas, electricity and other energy meters.
Do I need a DEC?
Display Energy Certificates are only required for buildings with a total useful floor area over 1,000m2 that are occupied by a public authority and institution providing a public service to a large number of persons and therefore visited by those persons. They are valid for one year. The DEC should be prominently displayed at all times and clearly visible to the public.
A DEC is also accompanied by an Advisory Report that lists cost effective measures to improve the energy rating of the property. The accompanying Advisory Report is valid for seven years.
How can we help?
Our accredited energy assessors carry out the DEC energy assessment, complete the necessary calculations and lodge the DEC and accompanying Advisory Report (AR). Furthermore, we will identify and implement the most appropriate, cost-effective improvement strategies.
The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) legislation has required all targeted organisations to begin monitoring and managing energy consumption using DEC’s as a core element of the CRC compliance.
